TWO US Navy servicemen are being held by the Taliban following an ambush, it was feared last night. The men are believed to have been seized after they strayed into Afghanistan's eastern badlands in an armoured vehicle. Insurgents yesterday claimed the troops were now being held in Logar province. Vehicles and helicopters were dispatched to search for them in the Charkh district, about a two-hour drive south of Kabul. Bally Replica Handbags It was unclear why the men had left their compound. The second group of Taliban tried to stop the vehicle, but when it did not, insurgents opened fire, he said. 'They didn't pay any attention to the police, otherwise we could have kept them from going into an unsecure area.' Another US soldier, Bowe Bergdahl, was captured in June last year. GOOD men come and good men go, but greats go on forever. Greats like Michelangelo, Mozart, Shakespeare and Rolf Harris. Rolf Harris has just turned 80. Yet last week he was the opening act at Glastonbury, the biggest music festival in the UK. Replica Prada handbags Seventy thousand people turned out to watch him, most of them young enough to be his grandchildren. By all reports they loved him. The only 80-year-old in Shakespeare is the greatest of all his characters in the greatest of all his plays, King Lear. Lear is a short- tempered despot. Two of his three daughters betray him, then belittle him. They drive him mad, first with self-pity, then with self-knowledge. In his madness he sees through an inverted world. "Thou hast seen a farmer's dog bark at a beggar? And the creature run from the cur? There thou might'st behold the great image of authority: a dog's obeyed in office." It's an observation as true of the twenty-first century as of the sixteenth. Think Tony Blair. Think George W. But you won't get any of that sort of thing from Rolf Harris. Rolf is among my earliest memories. I can see him now on television in the sixties, when he was younger than I am now. He had the same v- shaped beard, only it was black rather than King Lear white. He was a painter. Not a Michelangelo sort of painter but a cheerful chap wielding a brush you could paint a house with. He'd daub random blobs of black paint on a big sheet of paper. The challenge was to see where the painting was going. Where it seemed to be going was nowhere. But then suddenly an image swam out of it. It became a picture of a grasshopper or a girl drinking milk. I thought it was brilliant. I suspect I still would. Rolf's continued to paint. A few years ago he did a portrait of the Queen. The critics scoffed but the Queen apparently liked the way he'd captured her smile. That's typical of sunny Rolf. He doesn't do dark. But it's not for his painting that Rolf has become known and rich. It's for his music. His signature song is no Mozart aria. It consists of the last words of a stockman dying somewhere in the outback. King Lear's last words come with his one loyal daughter dead in his arms. "And my poor fool is hang'd. No, no, no life. Why should a dog, a horse, a rat have life And sexy lingerie thou no breath at all?" Rolf's stockman strikes a different note. "Tie me kangaroo down, sport," he says. But he doesn't explain what it means. If it means what it says, it seems a bit tough on the 'roo. He goes on to urge his mate Curl to "keep me cockatoo cool." Again he gives no reason for this request. Is it some sort of metaphor? I don't think so, and neither did the authorities in Singapore. They banned it. It was the fourth verse that upset them. "Let me abos go loose, Lou, Let me abos go loose. They're no longer of use, Lou, So let me abos go loose." It's a rare slip into harsh reality for Rolf, but to be fair to him he dumped the verse in 1960 and later apologised for it. It indicates only that he was of his time. When Rolf recorded Tie Me Kangaroo Down he offered the two session musicians 10 per cent of future roy Replica WatchesReplica Watches

a{TEXT-DECORATION:none} You might not have heard of Morquio's syndrome. In fact, you have to scour the net to find a crumb of detail on this life-changing, debilitating condition. In all of Britain, only 27 people have it. Aisha Seedat is one of them. A 12-year-old from Oadby, Aisha's life is a daily battle against this genetic disease which affects her growth, bone development, ligaments, spine, heart and various other internal organs and has left her in a wheelchair. Aisha's life has been one long, ongoing medical treatment, but she bears her condition lightly. "She is such a happy and cheerful girl," says mum Asma, 39. "We are so proud of her." Today, the pupils at Manor High School in Oadby will be wearing shoes of their choice to raise awareness of Morquio's and help their friend, Aisha, This is the Seedat family's story; about the child they longed for whose life has been blighted by a disease that even the gucci replica handbags experts know next to nothing about. Mum Asma: "We both wanted children but it took five years for us to conceive with Aisha. It seemed like an eternity. "But now we know why - she was a gift from God to us. He had to make sure we were ready. I didn't tell anyone I was pregnant for months. I was so... wary. And than an early scan showed there was something not quite right with her lungs. And then other scans showed nothing. All the time, we prayed and hoped for the best. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be." Dad Sharif: "Aisha was born with a protruding sternum. I was so thrilled at the birth, so pleased to see her - and then I saw this bone coming out of her chest. It was such a mix of emotions. I could see it wasn't right. I saw the look on the faces of the nurses and then I knew it was bad. They looked horrified. "No-one said anything and then they led me outside." Asma: "Aisha was the first girl to be born in our extended family for many years. We were so happy - and yet... we could see she was ill. I felt weak but I wanted to be positive. But, inside, I was contorted with grief." Sharif: "We came home and we didn't know what to feel. We finally had our daughter... but we could see she was ill. We just didn't how ill she was." Asma:"I gave her a bath when she was just nine days old and she stopped breathing. We rushed her into the hospital and they didn't know why she stopped breathing. They told me I must have had the bath water too cold. But I hadn't. I knew that wasn't right." Finally, the hospital put the Seedat family in touch with Dr Nichami at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. He ordered an extensive list of tests. These confirmed that little Aisha had Morquio's Syndrome, an inherited condition with a long list of serious symptoms including defdeformities of the bones, joints and ligaments and problems with internal organs. Asma:"It's an inherited genetic fault. We didn't know it, but I'm a carrier and Sharif is a carrier. You can only get it if both parents are carriers. We were both devastated." A few months later, Asma became pregnant again. She was delighted, yet terrified. Asma: "I think I went into a kind of depression. I knew there was a strong possibility our unborn child could also have Morquio. But I knew I didn't want a termination." Saffiya was born at the Leicester Royal Infi Wow gold!: Wow goldWow gold

I am the ward councillor for Bathavon West and write with regard to the Core Strategy Consultation Document. I have spoken at many meetings on this issue, including at the full council meeting in October, public meetings including at Corston and Whitchurch, council briefings and parish meetings. My views are well-known to those who attended those meetings. I am totally opposed to any wholesale urban extension of Bath into the surrounding villages and agricultural land; whether that land is in the green belt or not. There is a need for additional housing for local people but not, in my view, on the scale suggested by central Government and thereby included in the core strategy document. I fully support those residents in Newton St Loe and neighbouring villages who oppose the possibility of 2,000 houses being built on agricultural land west of Twerton. catalog printing I also take this opportunity of reminding readers of the views of the Conservative Party in regard to this issue. Firstly, at the national level David Cameron has made it crystal clear that under a Conservative Government the Whitehall-driven house-building targets will be scrapped, with decision-making powers instead handed back to local councils. Computer Peripherals This is important, as the council's current core strategy options consultation document is based on Government-dictated housing numbers and locations. Secondly, at the local level, as part of the core strategy document Conservatives have set out three clear policies: brownfield first; infrastructure upfront; jobs alongside housing. If these criteria cannot be met and Government growth- projections do not materialise, then the ambitious level of house- building currently included in the core strategy document cannot be right. It is important to remember that the current proposals are just that - proposals. The core strategy consultation process gives local people a chance to have their say, and submissions can be made via the B&NES council website until January 15. It is therefore very important that residents make their views loud and clear on what level of new building they deem acceptable. It is these views which will then inform the council on what levels of house-building are feasible as the core strategy process moves forward. For the record, while understanding the need for the core strategy document to be published for consultation, I was one of only five councillors who voted against it because of the inclusion of options pandora beads wholesale for house-building on green belt land, some of which surrounds Newton St Loe. Byline: Craig Brown KIDNAPPING garden gnomes and whisking them off to exotic locations, then posting back pictures of their adventure, is a common practical joke. Now, a prankster has taken the jape to a whole new level - returning the ornament with an album of 48 photographs from 12 far-flung locations. In a replica of a scene from the hit French film Amelie, Eve Stuart-Kelso was astonished to find Murphy the leprechaun standing on the doorstep of her Gloucester home - seven months after he disappeared. Replica watches The slightly careworn figurine was bearing a note, in which he blamed his absence on "itchy feet," and the astonishing record of his journey. Murphy had been swimming with turtles off the Great Barrier Reef, scaled a glacier in New Zealand and toured the ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Cynics may wonder if the pictures are the product of digital wizardry, but Andy O'Brien, picture editor of The Scotsman, is convinced they are genuine holiday snaps. "These pictures look like common or garden snaps to me. I can't see any evidence of photoshop trickery," he said. In the note, the gnome, whose travelling companion is referred to only as The Bear, claims he attracted unwanted attention from customs officials and took up 25 per cent of his party's luggage allocation. It also explained his travelling companions had renamed him Barrington. Also with him were immigration stamps for all the places he had been - South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong and Laos. Embroidered Patches The bizarre crime echoes the film starring Audrey Tautou, in which a gnome belonging to Amelie's father is taken around the world and photographed to show him how much he is missing out on in life. Mrs Stuart-Kelso said Murphy had not escaped unscathed. "His feet were missing, but that's no surprise, given that he was sent abseiling down a mountain." FACT BOX THEY may now be considered kitsch garden ornaments, but the origin of gnomes stretches back over the centuries. A German invention, the figures were used to bring good fortune. It is thought they depicted labourers who were said to have Fendi Bags arrived from Crete in 1,500BC to dig for gold and silver. Gnomes were first introduced to Britain by Sir Charles Isham in 1849, when he brought about 20 small figurines from Germany and placed them in a rockery. However, the painted gnome we now know was created by the Germans towards the end of the 19th century, when there was a large ceramic industry producing household and garden ornaments. HAU LATA and his team of Tongan stonemasons are the biggest thing happening in Stratford right now. They're using ancient island stone- chiselling techniques to give Broadway its first facelift for many years. The $1 million identity project funded by council loan has been controversial. Some say it's a waste of money, others that the stainless steel mountain silhouette replicas look more like an America's Cup yacht in sail. But nobody is knocking the quality of the workmanship of Hau Stone Contractors as they hand-split and place quarried rocks from York Rd (Stratford) and Surrey Rd (Inglewood) to make attractive corner walls at each of the town's main street roundabouts. Replica watches They do it by eye, using no rulers or spirit levels, working to Tongan music, chatting to passing locals, living at the New Commercial Hotel and eagerly consuming plates of home-baking from the Mt View Vineyard Church. "We appreciate what they're doing for our town," says church member Faye Dowell. Hau claims an interesting connection with Taranaki going back to 1846 when an ancestor did the stonework on St Mary's Church, New Plymouth. Embroidered Patches His father, who taught him stone masonry, told him about the St Mary's contract after Hau got a job in New Plymouth. The Tongan input does not appear to have been recorded in any surviving archive material. Hau came out as a single man in 1997 to play in the Taranaki Sevens rugby team, and saw a stonemason's job advertised in the Taranaki Daily News by housing developer Sashi Patel, who wanted an entranceway built for his Shelter Grove project. He did a good job and just kept getting more work, which has grown into a substantial business employing 15 men. For Stratford District Council engineer Kim Jansen, seeing the Shelter Grove job was proof enough of Hau's ability to award him the tender. "I've got a good reputation and most of the work comes Yves Saint Laurent Handags Replica to me by word of mouth," Hau says. "This stone's beautiful to work with, it splits true and has a good range of colour. "We're really enjoying being in Stratford, it's a very friendly town." LORD MARLAND last night stepped up his election campaign for the chairmanship of the England and Wales Cricket Board by promising the 18 first-class counties and the MCC a pounds 100 million windfall. In an email seen by The Sunday Telegraph, Marland states his intention to announce today that, if elected ahead of incumbent Giles Clarke, he will raise pounds 100 million to create a "capital development fund". In his charm offensive to the counties, Marland writes: "I have accumulated a great deal of fund-raising experience, both in the commercial and not-for-profit sectors, which I intend to bring to bear to help guarantee county cricket a sound footing." Replica watches Marland also moves to dispel the negative publicity of his association with the Sport Nexus Report, which supported a reduction in the number of counties. Embroidered Patches "Let me reiterate for the avoidance of doubt that I will act to support 18 enfranchised counties," he continues. Marland last night hardened his opposition to the ECB's five- year deal with Texan billionaire Sir Allen Stanford. "I don't know the full legal picture but, if elected, I would do everything in my power to end the deal," he said. Clarke, though, still remains favourite. Six counties - thought to be Somerset, Essex, Warwickshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Middlesex - refused to meet Marland in his round of lobbying last week. Meanwhile, Alastair Cook was last night surprisingly made England Test vice-captain. A man who terrified staff at a Plymouth fast-food outlet with a mask and replica gun has been sent to custody after pleading guilty to affray. cheap coach purses Staff at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Wolseley Road, St Budeaux, became alarmed when they spotted Sonny Parsons peering in the window wearing a home-made balaclava and brandishing an imitation musket. David Gittins, prosecuting, said it was 12.50am on Saturday, February 8, and the light outside the shop was poor. Parsons, 20, was looking through the window wearing a woollen beanie hat pulled down over his face, with two eye-holes cut in it, like a balaclava. He was staring in and holding an object which staff thought was a large knife, but which turned out to be a replica antique musket. They called the police and Parsons threw the gun to the ground when they arrived. Mr Gittins said an expert had examined the gun and described it as "a realistic imitation firearm". When arrested, Parsons, from Boringdon Avenue, St Budeaux, told police he was out wandering about looking for his friend and forgot he had the gun in his pocket. His previous convictions, dating back to 2006, include offences of public disorder, common assault, assault on police and resisting a constable. The incident happened while Parsons was on bail, and he is currently in custody for a previous offence. replica tag heuer watches Nicolas Gerasimidis, for Parsons, said he suffered from acute anxiety, for which he was prescribed diazepam, but this proved a "bad cocktail" with alcohol. In jail, he was now taking buspirone which was proving effective. The gun, which had no moving parts, was worth pounds10-20 and Parsons had been planning to sell it to a friend, he said. Deputy Circuit Judge Lester Boothman said similar hats and hoodies were worn by many young men, and the gun would have looked like a realistic firearm only in the 19th century. But he added: "This was an extremely stupid thing to do and could have ended up disastrously with an armed police response." Clip on charms He urged Parsons to continue taking his new medication and imposed a sentence of four months in a young offenders' institution to run concurrently with the sentence he is presently serving. This means he will still be released on August 24. Judge Boothman ordered the gun to be destroyed.
