AN Edwardian summerhouse will take centre stage on Architectural Heritage's Chelsea stand this year. cheap coach purses The re-thatched and restored building, which will double as an office, is just one of several large items that the Taddington- based firm will transport to Chelsea. "It is my London house for a week," joked Alex Puddy, managing director of the family firm. His company specialises in antique and replica garden ornaments, and summerhouses are one of its most popular lines. Fountains are also a top seller and there will be several working examples on the stand, along with bronze and marble statues. replica hublot watches With 32 years' experience of exhibiting at Chelsea, staff have got it down to a fine art and Alex admits he doesn't pre-plan the exhibit, partly because he doesn't know what stock will sell in the last weeks before the show. Byline: Craig Brown KIDNAPPING garden gnomes and whisking them off to exotic locations, then posting back pictures of their adventure, is a common practical joke. Now, a prankster has taken the jape to a whole new level - returning the ornament with an album of 48 photographs from 12 far-flung locations. In a replica of a scene from the hit French film Amelie, Eve Stuart-Kelso was astonished to find Murphy the leprechaun standing on the doorstep of her Gloucester home - seven months after he disappeared. Replica watches The slightly careworn figurine was bearing a note, in which he blamed his absence on "itchy feet," and the astonishing record of his journey. Murphy had been swimming with turtles off the Great Barrier Reef, scaled a glacier in New Zealand and toured the ruins of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Cynics may wonder if the pictures are the product of digital wizardry, but Andy O'Brien, picture editor of The Scotsman, is convinced they are genuine holiday snaps. "These pictures look like common or garden snaps to me. I can't see any evidence of photoshop trickery," he said. In the note, the gnome, whose travelling companion is referred to only as The Bear, claims he attracted unwanted attention from customs officials and took up 25 per cent of his party's luggage allocation. It also explained his travelling companions had renamed him Barrington. Also with him were immigration stamps for all the places he had been - South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong and Laos. Embroidered Patches The bizarre crime echoes the film starring Audrey Tautou, in which a gnome belonging to Amelie's father is taken around the world and photographed to show him how much he is missing out on in life. Mrs Stuart-Kelso said Murphy had not escaped unscathed. "His feet were missing, but that's no surprise, given that he was sent abseiling down a mountain." FACT BOX THEY may now be considered kitsch garden ornaments, but the origin of gnomes stretches back over the centuries. A German invention, the figures were used to bring good fortune. It is thought they depicted labourers who were said to have Fendi Bags arrived from Crete in 1,500BC to dig for gold and silver. Gnomes were first introduced to Britain by Sir Charles Isham in 1849, when he brought about 20 small figurines from Germany and placed them in a rockery. However, the painted gnome we now know was created by the Germans towards the end of the 19th century, when there was a large ceramic industry producing household and garden ornaments. HAU LATA and his team of Tongan stonemasons are the biggest thing happening in Stratford right now. They're using ancient island stone- chiselling techniques to give Broadway its first facelift for many years. The $1 million identity project funded by council loan has been controversial. Some say it's a waste of money, others that the stainless steel mountain silhouette replicas look more like an America's Cup yacht in sail. But nobody is knocking the quality of the workmanship of Hau Stone Contractors as they hand-split and place quarried rocks from York Rd (Stratford) and Surrey Rd (Inglewood) to make attractive corner walls at each of the town's main street roundabouts. Replica watches They do it by eye, using no rulers or spirit levels, working to Tongan music, chatting to passing locals, living at the New Commercial Hotel and eagerly consuming plates of home-baking from the Mt View Vineyard Church. "We appreciate what they're doing for our town," says church member Faye Dowell. Hau claims an interesting connection with Taranaki going back to 1846 when an ancestor did the stonework on St Mary's Church, New Plymouth. Embroidered Patches His father, who taught him stone masonry, told him about the St Mary's contract after Hau got a job in New Plymouth. The Tongan input does not appear to have been recorded in any surviving archive material. Hau came out as a single man in 1997 to play in the Taranaki Sevens rugby team, and saw a stonemason's job advertised in the Taranaki Daily News by housing developer Sashi Patel, who wanted an entranceway built for his Shelter Grove project. He did a good job and just kept getting more work, which has grown into a substantial business employing 15 men. For Stratford District Council engineer Kim Jansen, seeing the Shelter Grove job was proof enough of Hau's ability to award him the tender. "I've got a good reputation and most of the work comes Yves Saint Laurent Handags Replica to me by word of mouth," Hau says. "This stone's beautiful to work with, it splits true and has a good range of colour. "We're really enjoying being in Stratford, it's a very friendly town." LORD MARLAND last night stepped up his election campaign for the chairmanship of the England and Wales Cricket Board by promising the 18 first-class counties and the MCC a pounds 100 million windfall. In an email seen by The Sunday Telegraph, Marland states his intention to announce today that, if elected ahead of incumbent Giles Clarke, he will raise pounds 100 million to create a "capital development fund". In his charm offensive to the counties, Marland writes: "I have accumulated a great deal of fund-raising experience, both in the commercial and not-for-profit sectors, which I intend to bring to bear to help guarantee county cricket a sound footing." Replica watches Marland also moves to dispel the negative publicity of his association with the Sport Nexus Report, which supported a reduction in the number of counties. Embroidered Patches "Let me reiterate for the avoidance of doubt that I will act to support 18 enfranchised counties," he continues. Marland last night hardened his opposition to the ECB's five- year deal with Texan billionaire Sir Allen Stanford. "I don't know the full legal picture but, if elected, I would do everything in my power to end the deal," he said. Clarke, though, still remains favourite. Six counties - thought to be Somerset, Essex, Warwickshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Middlesex - refused to meet Marland in his round of lobbying last week. Meanwhile, Alastair Cook was last night surprisingly made England Test vice-captain. New captain Andrew Strauss has departed from recent convention by naming a deputy, and in choosing the 24-year- old Essex opener he overlooked considerably more experienced candidates in Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff and even Kevin Pietersen. "It was an unexpected bit of news," Cook said in St Kitts. It also emerged yesterday that England players are refusing to hand over their central contracts until they are given guarantees from the ECB about their Indian Premier League availability next year. Sean Morris, chief executive of the Professional Cricketers' Association, told The Sunday Telegraph: "The players have signed the contracts but they are on my desk and I am holding on to them until we get resolution on this." Lalit Modi, commissioner of the IPL, wants a two-year commitment from Coach Fake Handbags the players who are hoping to be bought in next month's auction. The ECB, however, are in a difficult position because the dates for the 2010 IPL have not been released, making it problematic to offer a commitment to Modi and the players. A man who terrified staff at a Plymouth fast-food outlet with a mask and replica gun has been sent to custody after pleading guilty to affray. cheap coach purses Staff at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Wolseley Road, St Budeaux, became alarmed when they spotted Sonny Parsons peering in the window wearing a home-made balaclava and brandishing an imitation musket. David Gittins, prosecuting, said it was 12.50am on Saturday, February 8, and the light outside the shop was poor. Parsons, 20, was looking through the window wearing a woollen beanie hat pulled down over his face, with two eye-holes cut in it, like a balaclava. He was staring in and holding an object which staff thought was a large knife, but which turned out to be a replica antique musket. They called the police and Parsons threw the gun to the ground when they arrived. Mr Gittins said an expert had examined the gun and described it as "a realistic imitation firearm". When arrested, Parsons, from Boringdon Avenue, St Budeaux, told police he was out wandering about looking for his friend and forgot he had the gun in his pocket. His previous convictions, dating back to 2006, include offences of public disorder, common assault, assault on police and resisting a constable. The incident happened while Parsons was on bail, and he is currently in custody for a previous offence. replica tag heuer watches Nicolas Gerasimidis, for Parsons, said he suffered from acute anxiety, for which he was prescribed diazepam, but this proved a "bad cocktail" with alcohol. In jail, he was now taking buspirone which was proving effective. The gun, which had no moving parts, was worth pounds10-20 and Parsons had been planning to sell it to a friend, he said. Deputy Circuit Judge Lester Boothman said similar hats and hoodies were worn by many young men, and the gun would have looked like a realistic firearm only in the 19th century. But he added: "This was an extremely stupid thing to do and could have ended up disastrously with an armed police response." Clip on charms He urged Parsons to continue taking his new medication and imposed a sentence of four months in a young offenders' institution to run concurrently with the sentence he is presently serving. This means he will still be released on August 24. Judge Boothman ordered the gun to be destroyed. Byline: TOM MULLEN A DEADLY arsenal of nearly 3,000 guns has been taken off our streets in the past two years. Military assault rifles, semi-automatics and thousands of rounds of ammunition have been seized. Replica watches The weapons, some of which were used in criminal circles, are now set to be destroyed. Northumbria Police and Durham Constabulary released details of all firearms confiscated since September 2007 under the Freedom of Information Act. Among them are British Army standard SA-80 assault rifles and two Stirling machine guns, also used by the military. Durham police collected 498 firearms, while Northumbria counted 2,454, including replicas. The majority are air rifles, with 733, but Northumbria Police also lists 571 shotguns, 22 sawn-off shotguns, 99 pistols and 203 rifles - which include automatic machine guns such as the SA-80. Durham Constabulary said it would be too costly to itemise their weapons by category, but listed 18,489 rounds of ammunition, including shotgun cartridges. Both forces declined to provide information about explosives because of national security. But Northumbria did reveal they had seized three batches of flares and smoke grenades. Embroidered Patches Police said while some of the guns will have been used by criminals, the majority are confiscated from licensed firearms users. Chief Inspector Bruce Storey, of Northumbria Police's operations department, said: "These figures refer to the number of weapons that came into police possession over a two-year period and include weapons that have been handed in to police and weapons taken into police possession from licensed certificate holders - normally where their licence has expired and we retain the weapon for them until the licence has been renewed. There are many reasons why firearms come into the possession of the police; for instance licences expire, people decide they no longer want to keep a gun, or family members hand in guns which belonged to deceased relatives. "Of the conventional firearms coming into our possession the vast majority are either voluntarily surrendered or taken for safekeeping while licensing issues are resolved. "They may for instance be handed in by members of the public because they no longer want them and some are handed in for destruction due to being found." Sgt Jon Curtis, of Durham Constabulary's operations department, said: "While we cannot afford to be complacent, firearms-related crime has traditionally been, and remains, very low in Durham compared to many areas of the UK. "The firearms and ammunition recovered by the police come into our possession for a variety of reasons, and it should not be assumed they are all connected with crime. "Some may be taken for safe-keeping Replica Dolce & Gabbana Handbags where a firearms certificate has expired, and then subsequently returned to the owner." WHILE the bunnies on most people's minds this weekend are of the Easter variety, superstore BHS will be smarting at the reminder that recently it was forced to remove a line of T-shirts for little girls bearing an image of a Playboy-style Bunny and the message "I love boys . . . They are stupid". cheap coach purses Inappropriate sexual clothing for children has again come under scrutiny from the National Union of Teachers in England and Wales, which launched a report into the commercialisation of childhood yesterday at its annual conference. Its focus is the role of supermarkets and advertisers in targeting young consumers, not only with sexy clothing, but to entice them into a lifetime shopping habit. The NUT cites such examples as Asda offering lace lingerie for little girls, including a push-up bra for nineyear-olds, as the impetus behind its report. While Asda claims it has never sold a push-up bra forvery young girls, BHS was last year criticised for a range of underwear called Little Miss Naughty, which included padded bras and sexy knickers for under-10s. Sensitivity about the increasing sexualisation of children was heightened by Conservative leader David Cameron last yearwhen he denounced provocative fashions for children as "harmful and creepy". Few could disagree. Yet while most parents would not contemplate replica breitling watches buying raunchy underwear for their young, it is clear that flagrantly adult fashions for preteens are deemed acceptable. When Liam Edgecombe, on trial last week for raping a 10-year-old, claimed that she had looked 16, the judge said this was a "reasonable belief", and the defendant was spared a jail sentence. This case is an extreme instance of the growing pressure on girls to look, and act, farmore mature than they are. Advertisers Thomas sabo charms know the effectiveness of "pester power", and have given a name to this vulnerable newmarket: KGOY, or Kids Growing OlderYounger. The volume of spending by child consumers not only reflects their own deep anxieties, but may suggest a corrosive indifference towards children in general. There seems a widespread willingness to accept or even facilitate the premature growing-up of the young, denying them a carefree childhood where they could enjoy themselves unperturbed by considerations of looks and labels. Indeed, some would clearly like them to grow up as fast as possible, in the mistaken belief that once mature they will become less demanding. Most, of course, would hotly refute such a suggestion. Yet the creeping erosion of childhood, and the patterns of materialism that are being put in place for later life, are more suggestive of apathy or even neglect on the part of society than of the care, love and respect children deserve. TROY -- "Gun is ready!," a man shouted. Everybody held their fingers to their ears, and then ... "BOOM!!!" Replica watches Gray, lumbering smoke hung in the air Sunday afternoon after men and boys in Civil War costumes set off a cannon at the Pennsylvania Heritage Festival at Alparon Park in Troy. The cannon, a 3-inch ordnance rifle, was a Civil War replica, and the ammunition wasn't a cannon ball, but rather blanks made with aluminum foil and gunpowder. They were stored in a bin, looking like baked potatoes ready for the microwave. Mike Kelly, of Gillett, who took part in the firing with Randall Smith, Arizona Smith, and Levi Smith of Big Pond, and Tommy Cox, said people were "pretty impressed" with the demonstrations. Off to the side, Terren Smith stood by, dressed in an old- fashioned blue dress and holding a tall staff topped by a flag. Earlier, she strolled the grounds with a white, lacey parasol. Many more events -- including broom making, soap making, and old- fashioned children's games, to name a few -- continued to take place on the second day of the festival. The experience was like stepping onto a Hollywood set or into the pages of a history book. Desiree Rockwell, festival chair, was hopeful that attendance would top out at 2,000 for both days. One-thousand showed up on Saturday, she said. The Bradford County Heritage Association and the Troy Rotary Club present the Pennsylvania Heritage Festival, which features the Historic Village and Artisan Marketplace. It offers demonstrations and the region's largest display of antique carriages and sleighs, not to mention handcrafted traditional, folk and contemporary fine arts and crafts, and "the best in Pennsylvania foods and agricultural products," according to the organizers' description. Embroidered Patches This year, the festival surveyed people about where they came from, and the results showed that there were visitors from New Jersey, Maryland, Kentucky, Massachusetts, and downstate Pennsylvania, Rockwell said. She guessed that some were in the area visiting family. Others were passing by and saw the event taking place, she said. With people Fendi Replica coming from outside the Troy area, she commented, "I think that says a lot about our volunteers and people who worked on this. I think it says a lot about our vendors and our demonstrators that people want to come out." She noted that publicity efforts took place, and the festival, she added, also can be found on the Internet (http:// ). Alta Lee from Omaha, Neb., was visiting family, Agnes Frawley, in Wysox and attended the festival. "It's great," she said. Of course, local people were there as well. "I saw a lot of local people come by, a lot of first timers," vendor Sylvia Ellis, who was dressed in an old-fashioned costume and was making goat's milk soap, said. She stirred the white, creamy liquid that simmered in pots. "The advertising was very good this year, which really helped." She appears at the festival each year. "There's a lot of living history, that's the key. It's a good, hands-on thing, especially for the kids. The kids ask questions. They really want to know. The horror movie "Sorority Row," which opened this weekend, is full of hot young actresses, like Audrina Partridge ("The Hills"), Briana Evigan ("Step Up 2: The Streets"), and Rumer Willis (Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's daughter). But the best performance might have been by a beautiful old house in Munhall. cheap coach purses It became a sorority house packed with partying lingerie-clad coeds -- then is transformed into a house of horrors as the girls are hunted by a hooded, mysterious killer. Then it gets set on fire. "It was kind of bizarre," admits Rose Karichko, 51, a pharmacist who owns the home with her husband. "At the beginning, it was like, 'Oh look, there it is!' When it's burning down, we're like, 'Oh my God!' They did kind of warn us. They said, 'It's all Hollywood fire, so don't panic.' " The stately old brick home required only a few renovations to host the Theta Pi girls, like a large extension built in the back by the film crew. replica tag heuer watches "The location scout shot something in the neighborhood for the Pittsburgh 250th anniversary, at the Carnegie Library -- we're right behind the library," Karichko explains. "When this movie project came up, he remembered the neighborhood, and knew there were all these old houses." The Karichkos were limited to living in two rooms of their house during most of the filming, and moved to the Shadyside Inn during the most intensive part of the shoot. There weren't blade-wielding killers and half-naked girls running around all the time, though. "Moviemaking, I have a new respect for it," Karichko says. "It's a lot of hurry-up-and-wait. The girls are covered up in parkas and in a tent with heaters. At night, it gets pretty chilly. Then they shoot for 5 to 10 minutes, and the girls go away. Then they move the camera a little, and do it again. They shoot the same scene over and over and over." Clip on charms Of course, these kinds of movies aren't everyone's cup of tea. "I enjoyed it, though it's not my kind of film," Karichko says. "Luckily, I knew the story, so I knew when to look away when somebody was going to go (get killed). It was fun. The nice thing was, as the homeowner, you could be very close. I could sit right behind the producers (during filming). You don't watch movies again the same way, now that you know what goes on behind the scenes." Although the house gets abused pretty badly in the movie, nothing was permanently harmed. "I trusted them," Karichko says. "I think at some times they were more concerned with the house than I was. I was like, 'Whatever, it's a piece of furniture, not a priceless antique.' LUCKNOW: Anand recently learnt how to spell his name. With hands tucked in pockets of his blue jacket, he hops around imagining himself to be a bird and charming you with innocent smile. Medically he is fit, but for the fact that the 35-year-old man has not grown beyond five years. The irony, however, is that he doesn't know that he is going to be homeless soon. Replica watches The state, which boasts of having big parks, malls, multi-storey buildings and monuments, doesn't have even a single home for mentally retarded destitute adults. There are homes for mentally retarded children below 18 years of age and hospitals where mentally challenged can be treated, but after the treatment they are left on streets again to fend for themselves and die. Anand was in a bad shape when found on roadside in Thakurganj on December 31, 2007. Some policemen led by two IPS officers, who voluntarily work to rehabilitate mentally challenged destitute, brought him to the psychiatry ward of CSM Medical University. Treatment cured Anand's disease and now he needs a home, but he cannot recall his address. Neither can he stay in hospital as beds are to be vacated for other patients. Same is the case with 25-year-old Chintu and 40-year-old Harinda. They were also brought to CSMMU three months back. Chintu can only recalls that he is from Jaunpur, but nothing else which could help in Embroidered Patches locating his family. The Chandrika Devi Temple Trust had decided to provide shelter to the three in one of its homes for the poor following which the discharge proposal was mooted in the court. But as orders were signed, the trust backed out. "Actually, after a second thought members felt it is a big responsibility which we are not fully prepared to handle," said an apologetic Akhilesh Singh, manager of the trust. Even had Singh kept his promise, the problem would not have ended as more such patients are in the ward who would need shelter. "The permanent solution is to Versace Handbags have a separate home for such people and the government should take initiative," said Prof JK Trivedi, head, psychiatry department, CSMMU. "Mental retardation cannot be treated but if such people get love and care as given to children and involved them in work which gives them a `sense of importance, they can lead a good life," he said. University for Disabled being setup in the city can solve he problem. "The land and money is available, only if the founders decide to construct a small hall for mentally retarded people, there are many social organisations which will readily provide care-takers," said a professor. Afterall, he said, in last five years, the policemen working for the cause have rehabilitated 92 such cases on their own. "If they can do it voluntarily while in service, why can't we?," he added. Byline: Natalie Clarke NANCY Dell'Olio is in bed, her bare body wrapped around a crisp, white silken sheet. Strewn casually alongside her is a bottle of champagne chilling in a silver ice bucket, a platter of ripe strawberries and black lace lingerie. No clich? has been spared in order to create this bedroom seduction scene. It's a pose for the glossy brochure to publicise Nancy's new range of 'nightwear' but one suspects that Nancy's bedroom at home in Belgravia is really like this, all of the time. Nancy doesn't have a man in her life at the moment, but she is a woman who likes to be prepared. Does she ever stop being Nancy, climb out of the Louboutin heels, the catsuits and put on a nice comfy tracksuit? 'I am always glam-or-ous,' she confirms. Replica watches 'It iz important for confidence. Yes, I will wear a tracksuit, but it 'as to be the right tracksuit. Even at 'ome my 'air 'as to be right, I 'ave to feel comfortable. It iz the way I am.' Last year, Nancy cut off her flowing raven mane and went short, which was chic but a touch masculine. Today, when we meet at London's Met Bar for a preview of the collection, her hair is styled in a flattering wavy bob, although the 'waves' are unmoving under the sheer weight of hairspray. She is wearing a tight-fitting grey woollen dress by a flashy Italian designer, and black patent Christian Louboutins. In person, she is petite and softerlooking than she appears in photographs, and rather beautiful. The tan is a shade or two lighter than it used to be. The new collection, ND, comprises underwear, camisoles and some very luxurious long silk dressing gowns that one can well imagine Nancy throwing around herself to pour a glass of champagne for a lover as she dangles a strawberry between his lips. The pieces are more understated than might have been expected from Nancy, but these days the Italian ex-girlfriend of Sven-Goran Eriksson is a more toned-down figure than of old. When she burst into the national consciousness back in 2001, dancing alongside Sven, the then England manager, in a flaming red catsuit, she was regarded as the sequinned foil to the dour Swede, but only that. Without Sven, what would she be? Seven years later, following the split that seemed an eternity coming but happened only two years ago, it is Nancy who is possibly the more famous of the two in this country, an unlikely international treasure. The recently founded London Lyric Opera was launched in the warm acoustic of the Cadogan Hall on 16 September with four varied song-cycles. This was followed by Respighi's quite fascinating Deit锟?silvane excellently projected by tenor Anando Mukerjee and a truly impressive performance of Berlioz's Les nuits d'锟絫锟?from soprano Katherine Broderick, which gained markedly from the direction of Madeleine Lovell. makeup brushes Michael Pringsheim's new Eichendorff Liederkries is a work which held the interest without allowing sufficient lingerie wholesale time to convey its message at a single performance, which means to say that I would greatly wish to hear it again soon sung by Julietta Demetriades, whom I found to be an impressive as well as expressive singer.
